Spring Giveaway!

I feel the need to celebrate Spring with a giveaway.
Winter was tough, and lasted long after the calendar said that Spring was here. We had snow this week,  but today is supposed to be in the 60's, and I saw a violet in the yard, so I'm celebrating!

 You can win either the 11 oz rabbit mug (It had carrots inside and a leaping rabbit on the back) or the meditating sloth mug. It has the word "Namaste" inside, and a sloth hanging form a branch on the back.

To enter to win, just comment below. That is one entry. If you want  more entries, pin an item on Pinterest, or Wanelo, or Tumblr from either of my shops,  and mention it in your comment. You can also tweet an item or post it on your facebook. Whatever social media you prefer, you'll get an entry for each thing you post or pin or tumble.

I'll use a random number generator to choose the winner from each of the entries.

If anyone REALLY wants to post a lot, the first person who does 50 off-Etsy pins/posts/ tumblr/ FB posts will get to pick any mug from my secondchanceceramic.etsy.com shop.

The contest goes until April 27, and the winner will be posted on April 28.

Happy Earth Day! And Beltane is just around the corner!

To celebrate, and because I haven't done a giveaway for a while, I thought I would combine them.

Giveaway and Another Shop

This giveaway is to celebrate a second shop opening.

I am just getting Second Chance Ceramics on Etsy started.

As some of you might know, I have been playing with adding decals to my handmade pottery. While I was experimenting, I used some white diner-type ware I had on hand to try out some graphics and to fill a kiln. They were supposed to be just an experiment, but they turned out so well, that my daughter and son wanted some for their apart

ments. I made more, and their friends

wanted some. I put photos on flickr and more people wanted some.

So, I decided to do this right and make the wares into a shop all by itself. If you are interested in the process, read my profile on SecondChanceCeramics on Etsy.

So, if you read all that you deserve a prize, and here it is:

Just comment which of the two dishes pictured here you would like best to win, and you are entered to win that item from Second Chance Ceramics.

One is a pagan themed mug with birds, pentacles and an image of the Greenman in stone, and the other is a little mermaid bowl with an octopus and other steampunkish things. There is a lid you can put on the bowl for storage in the fridge.

Be sure to leave some way for me to contact you if you win, like your Etsy name, or your blog or twitter or something.

Saturday Freebieness and Thrifting in Chicago

My family spent Thanksgiving with my very dear friend, who lives on Chicago's Gold Coast.
While the rest of the family went home late Thursday night, my oldest daughter and I spent the night, and then the three of us went thrift store shopping.

Then darling daughter and I had to come back to town on the bus with our thrifty loot. Here we are with all of it in the train station, waiting for the bus.

I very much want to support Buy Nothing Day, but the chance to shop with daughter and friend was too tempting. So we compromised by buying only second hand goods and eating at home, wonderful Thanksgiving leftovers!

And here is a photo of my giveaway pottery for today: It is a little votive holder, thrown by me, and carved by my younger daughter. It is made from stoneware, and glazed in Toasty Marshmallow. It is shown here with a tealight, but it would be big enough for most votives, even ones in glass.

Today's freebie is a rock box. I make these from stoneware, iron oxide, and glass. They are usually small- this one is 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches.

They can be used to store a tiny thing - like a pair of earrings, a

baby tooth, a charm, a four leaf clover- but mostly they are just fun to have. They look very much like a rock until you open them, then, inside is shiny glass with lots of sparkle hidden in the center.

They remind me of some people I know. People who are plain, run of the mill, hardly notice 'em types but who have hearts of gold, secret passions, great humor, and generosity of spirit.

I just love silly things. I love dumb jokes, knock knocks and puns! I just came across this joke and had to share: A rabbi, a UU minister, and a Wiccan priestess decide to go on a fishing trip together. They go down to their local lake, rent a boat, and go out on to the lake for a day of fishing. As the afternoon approached, the trio became hungry - and realized that they had left their lunches on the shore of the lake. The UU minister got out of the boat, walked across the lake, got his lunch, walked back, and sat down and began to eat his lunch. "You should have gotten all of our lunches!" scolds the priestess. She then gets up, walks across the lake, picks up her lunch as well as the Rabbi's, walks back across the lake, and sits down, handing the rabbi his afternoon meal. The rabbi at this point is almost out of his mind, his eyes wide with shock. Finally, he manages to sputter.. "Wha.. what... how did you...?" The UU minister grins at the priestess, nudges her, and asks "Do you think we should tell him about the rocks?" The priestess looks at the minister, raises an eyebrow, and replies "... what rocks?"
